Welfare To Work Scheme.
According to the person I spoke to, they have no information as yet about the scheme, but believe those who are eligible will be informed via letter of their requirement to attend.
They were unable to give me information on what makes a person eligible other than to say you will have to have been unemployed for 12 months or more. They also stated people won't start being informed of their requirement to attend until next month and it would be rolled out over a period of 2 years. They could tell me nothing of what the Welfare to Work Scheme actually was, but stopped just short of telling me it was in fact the same old same old.
How can anyone say something has been "Launched" when the very people who are going to be dealing with the scheme know next to nothing about it, and are we seeing yet again those who are seeking help to get themselves back into employment or re-training, who are doing everything they can for themselves left floundering while those who have no interest in working are having money thrown at them.
When are we going to see help given to those who are asking for help, who know what kind of help they need to improve their chances of getting back to work, who are already doing everything they can to get work but need a little help, when are we going to see a scheme set up you can join on a voluntary basis with the only criteria being a willingness to work. I can't really see it happening as it will simply expose the lie that all unemployed people are workshy scroungers.
Surely it makes more sense to give help to those who are pro-actively seeking work and pro-actively looking for help to re-train or re-locate to get employment, because those are the people who will stay in employment, they are the people who will benefit most from a "Back to Work Scheme" because they genuinely want to be in work and will therefore make it a success.
From what information I can get at the moment this so called new scheme isn't new at all it's just had a name change.
